12/9-12/13 Schedule

Southlands (iPoly) Girls Soccer Team beat Sacred Heart 16-0 today.

*Bill Summary (for all bills) is due in Purther's class (make sure you addressed all issues from the email and it is your best work)
**ESA is due by 8AM to turnitin.com.  Be sure (1) one person in your group converts Worsksheet 2 into a PDF and (2) that person submits the PDF for your group.
***Final day to give money for adopt-a-family.  It is also the day that the 1 minute minimum problem, solution, party perspective, constitutent speech is due.  And, there is a research check, so you need to bring 2 articles on your bill or another bill and an updated WB to read and take notes in class.  A bill is not an article.  750 words or more.

Speeches due for Day 1:
  • 1 minute minumum
  • Every person in your group should speak
  • 4 speeches:  1. Problem  2.  Solution  3.  Party Perspective (why will your party support it?)  4.  Constituents (Why will your constituents support the bill)
The Ortega speech is for Day 2 of the Model Assembly.

  • Buy your cap and gown by January 10th.  Remember to send me the evidence.  If you are going to borrow one from an alumni, send me an email and say this. 
  • Purther is collecting his notebook on Tuesday for W and E and Friday for North and South.
  • Adopt a family final day to donate is Wednesday. At lunch, we are having a meeting in Purther's to count the total money and decide on shopping.  If you want go to the meeting, feel free to attend.
  • Senior sweaters should be here before the winter break.   They are putting your first name on them right now.  
  • Holiday Party is Tuesday December 17th during second block.  Research check #4 is in the morning during the first block.
  • Hike to the Hollywood Sign is Saturday January 11, 2014.  For more info click here.  We will be meeting at Griffith Park Observatory at 9AM.

Day 1 Model Assembly Instructions:
1.  Go to committee by 8AM and Chair officially introduces the day.
2.  Give your one minute problem, solution, party perspective, or constituent speech to officially introduce the bill to the committee.  The Chair will take a motion to consider and then read the title and preamble before individuals in the group start presenting. 
3.  Break up into 2 smaller committees and using structure and general debate, you will go through each bill in your committee.
4.  Chairs will assign speeches and set the agenda for the next day. 
  • Republican 
    • For every Republican bill, you need one 3 minute pro and a 1 minute pro
    • For every Democrat bill, you need one 3 minute con and a 1 minute co
    • You are also welcome to plan for general debate speeches for up to 2 minutes, but the chair doesn't need to assign these
  • Democrats:
    • For every Democrat bill, you need one 3 minute pro and a 1 minute pro
    • For every Republican bill, you need one 3 minute con and a 1 minute co
    • You are also welcome to plan for general debate speeches for up to 2 minutes, but the chair doesn't need to assign these

Day 2 Model Assembly Instructions
1.  Go to committee by 8AM
2.  Chair officially introduces the day and then a member will motion to consider a bill.
3.  For every bill, there will be Structure Debate (3 minute pro, 3 minute con, 1 minute pro, 1 minute con) and then General Debate.  At the end of General Debate, there will be a motion for the previous question.   After this passes, you need to vote on the bill.  The bill needs 60% to pass.  If it passes, it is guaranteed to be at day 3 and day 4 (no matter what happens day 3).
4.  Chair will assign speeches after the committee is done.

  • Republican 
    • For every passed Republican bill, you need a problem, solution and party perspective speech
    • For every passed Democrat bill, you need a problem, solution and party perspective speech
    • You are also welcome to plan for general debate speeches for up to 2 minutes, but the chair doesn't need to assign these
  • Democrats:
    • For every passed Republican bill, you need a problem, solution and party perspective speech
    • For every passed Democrat bill, you need a problem, solution and party perspective speech
    • You are also welcome to plan for general debate speeches for up to 2 minutes, but the chair doesn't need to assign these
